The library is open for in-person browsing!

Patrons are now permitted to enter the library to borrow and browse for items.
Public seating areas remain closed at this time.

Effective Friday, March 19, one public computer is available.

Per New Jersey regulations, a maximum of 25 patrons will be allowed in the building at one time, and social distancing is required. Additional visitors will be asked to wait on the porch and will be admitted in the order of their arrival. Masks are required for all patrons over the age of 2 and must be worn at all times in the building. Any patrons without a mask will be asked to leave. Prior to visiting, please familiarize yourself with the guidelines located in our amended Code of Conduct. Curbside pickup is still available by request to all Ho-Ho-Kus cardholders. For details on this service, please see below.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What hours will the library be open?
The library is open its regular hours: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 10am-5pm; Tuesday and Thursday 10am-8pm; and Saturday 10am-1pm. The book drop is open for returns 24/7.

Can I return my items inside the library?
For patron and staff safety, all returns must be placed in the book drop on the porch and cannot be accepted at the Circulation Desk. Returns will continue to be quarantined for 72 hours prior to check-in, per CDC guidelines. Late fees will be waived through September 30. Please do not worry if you still see an item on your card a day or two after you returned it.

Who can enter the library?
Anyone is welcome to visit the library, including residents of other towns. Curbside pickup remains limited to Ho-Ho-Kus residents only. All visitors over the age of 2 must wear a mask. A maximum of 25 patrons are permitted in the library at one time. If you are feeling unwell, have a fever, or have visited one of the states on New Jersey's travel advisory list within the last 14 days, we respectfully ask that you refrain from coming to the library. All children under 14 are required to visit the library with a parent or caregiver.

I want to browse the library's collection. Are there any no-contact options for checking out materials other than curbside pickup?
Yes! Self-checkout is available by downloading our brand new MeeScan app on your iPhone or Android smartphone or visiting the self-service MeeScan kiosk in the library. Simply borrow items by scanning their barcode with your phone's camera or the camera on the kiosk, and a receipt will be emailed or texted to you. MeeScan is available across BCCLS libraries, but items may only be checked out within the physical library building. Click here to view our tutorial on installing and using the app on iOS devices.

Will the library still offer programs?
All in-person programming is suspended until further notice. However, we offer a variety of free virtual and take-home programs for all age groups. Please visit our calendar to see the full lineup.

Curbside Pickup

Contact-free pickup is available to Ho-Ho-Kus cardholders by request during the library's regular business hours. To request curbside pickup, please place your request(s) through the catalog or by calling the library at 201-445-8078. When you receive notification that your item(s) is ready for pickup, contact the library by phone or email and let us know you would like contact-free pickup. Items will be checked out and held in the lobby (previous home of the used book sale) at the time you've selected. Simply grab your bag and go!

Virtual Programming

Many of our programs have shifted online and can still be enjoyed from home! Visit our Facebook page each Tuesday and Wednesday for new story time videos from Miss Alyssa. Other events, such as book clubs and lectures for adults, are offered virtually through Zoom. Visit our events calendar for an updated schedule. Be sure to keep an eye on our social media channels for at-home crafts and other DIY projects as well. Is there something else you'd like to see? Email Alyssa with kids and teen suggestions or Brandy for adult ideas.
